Monarch butterflies are beautiful insects that need milkweed to survive. Monarch caterpillars only eat milkweed, but these plants are vanishing. Participants in this workshop will make milkweed seed balls to help save the Monarch butterflies.
Meg Swecker is the Coordinator of Technology Integration for Roanoke County Public Schools, in Roanoke, Virginia. She works with elementary and secondary teachers in two schools, helping them learn to use and integrate technology into their classrooms. She has been teaching for 31 years and has been an ITRT since 2000. She presents at local, regional, and state wide conferences and was the 2009 Virginia Technology Leadership Award recipient from the Virginia Department of Education. In her spare time, she gardens, keeps bees, and teaches scuba.
James is a second grade teacher at Green Valley Elementary School in Roanoke, Virginia. He brings his love of science to his students on a daily basis in the form of hands on activities and experiments. He is an avid runner and has completed numerous marathons and ultramarathons. He spends his summers fighting wild fires in the western US.
